Iodine and Brine Business
Outline of Iodine and Brine Business of the Group
KNG and Nihon Tennen Gas Co., Ltd. are involved in the manufacture and the sale of iodine and iodine compounds and in the sale of brine. KNG is selling our self-manufactured iodine and the iodine purchased from Nihon Tennen Gas and others for industrial use and pharmaceutical products etc. Furthermore, KNG has entrusted the manufacture of iodine to Nihon Tennen Gas and are also selling brine to the company and others as a raw material for iodine manufacture.
In addition to contract manufacture of iodine for us, Nihon Tennen Gas is also selling their manufactured iodine and iodine compounds.
Usages Extending to the Most Advanced Fields

Iodine use is closely linked to our daily lives. Products include a medicated gargle, X-ray contrast media, disinfectants and antimicrobial agents. In addition, iodine is useful as an industrial catalyst and has many applications in the field of agriculture. Recently, demand for iodine has grown in high-tech fields such as LCD polarizing film.
ISO9001 Acquisition
In March 1995, we received ISO 9002 quality assurance accreditation for iodine production and ISO 9001: 2000 accreditation in May 2002. Through measures such as these, KNG is building a reliable base as the world's leading iodine producer.
Developing Applications for Iodine and Providing Iodine Aid
Japan produces about 30% of the world's iodine. However, academic research is often limited to a piecemeal approach in a range of different fields. From an industry perspective, iodine is exported as a raw material and processed products using iodine are imported to Japan. To address this, promote scholarship and foster useful technology relating to iodine, in June 1998, the Forum on Iodine Utilization (renamed as the Society of Iodine Science in July 2007) was established through a three-way collaboration between industry, academia and government. The forum conducts activities such as international symposiums and provides subsidies for research. KNG is an enthusiastic participant in these activities and pursues new possibilities for iodine. To help prevent iodine deficiency disorders, KNG is cooperating with organizations such as the International Council for Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders, UNICEF and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
